Improving Thinking Skills I teach Feuerstein's Instrumental Enrichment (IE). (This has nothing to do with musical instruments!) IE is a comprehensive programme designed to improve and enhance thinking skills. It can be used with many diverse populations. One of the most important things when teaching IE is that the mediation used is appropriate for the population, for their needs and moods and for the moment. The term mediation refers to the way the teacher interacts with the students, which includes the way s/he presents the material. The IE programme breaks thinking down into different components. Some examples are: spatial thinking, orientation in time, categorisation skills, comparison skills... The different tasks in the programme enable students to practise and become more proficient in the different kinds of thinking needed for their accomplishment. I supplement my teaching of the IE programme with educational games which I have designed. I also teach remedial reading (of Hebrew) and remedial maths skills. I work with children who attend regular schools and need help "catching up"; with people who are in special education; with people who have a chromosomal disorder known as "prader-willy syndrome"; with people who have cerebral palsy; with people who have attention and/or concentration problems; and with parents. I work with individuals and with groups of 2-7 people. If your child could use my help, contact me at: 0508-390-801 or email me: ruth.yes@gmail.com |
